Since childhood, dance, movement, and music have always been an integral part of Karen’s life in one form or another. She took her first Iyengar yoga class more than 20 years ago at her alma mater, UCSD. But it wasn’t until her pregnancy, and birth of her twins (now 12 years old), that yoga became an essential part of her existence.

Karen has maintained a consistent practice over the last 14 years, beginning with Ashtanga, and evolving to include more influences from Iyengar and Anusara traditions. In 2014, she completed the 100 Hour Intensive Training under the inspirational guidance of Josh Vincent and Lauren Duke. Becoming a yoga teacher, and having the opportunity to share all the benefits yoga has to offer, seemed to be the next natural step for her to take.

Throughout her life challenges, Karen has found that yoga is necessary for developing awareness of breath, maintaining balance, replenishing energy, and cultivating a “calm” in the center of all the storms that life brings. In her classes, she explores these discoveries with her students. She creates a welcoming, relaxed space, and interweaves bits of yogic and life philosophy, thereby making the practice more applicable to our daily lives off the mat.
